Hi there, I did my first free hand battle damage. Really wanted to learn this technique because they look amazing on marines. The most important part is that you use two colours. Your darkest paint you used on your model for the shades and your brightest paint you used for the highlights. To be clear you only use layer paint not actually shade paint. So if you used shades just take the layer paint that&#39;s closest to that colour. Good luck and happy crafting.

Battle Damage

There are two ways to do this technique. The first example starts with a highlight and after that you paint the shade of the damage. The second example you start with the shade and then you highlight. I like example more because it more easy to see what you are doing.




Paint some random dots and stripes where you want your battle damage with Dorn Yellow. Always go for more damage on the edges.


Citadel Dorn Yellow

Paint the shade with Rhinox Hide on the dots and stripes. Make sure there is only a highlight on the bottom of the damage.




Citadel Rhinox Hide

Paint some random dots and stripes where you want your battle damage with Rhinox Hide.




Paint the highlight with Dorn Yellow on the dots and stripes. Make sure there is only a highlight on the bottom of the damage.
