Hi there, This tutorial is al about how to paint a Martian base. I like to at a lot of details but its also really cool to just use rocks and dust. I painted this model completely with Citadel paints. For the sand or dust I used a pigment paint from Forgeworld. You can not buy these anymore but any orange pigment will do. Alien Martian Base

Glue the detail on the base. I greenstuffed the mushrooms, got a GW skull and some small stones.


Make a mix of talcum powder, find sand and PVA glue. Make some random piles on the base and strike them over the other details. Then push 2 tufts on the base in the same mix.


Paint the base with Mournfang Brown. Then paint the stones with Skavenblight Dinge.

Hightlight the stones with Stormvermin Fur and then make a fine highlight with Karak Stone. Paint the skull and the stems of the mushrooms with Karak Stone.

Shade the hole base with Agrax Earthshade. Paint the mushrooms Averland Sunset.

Highlight the skull and the mushroom stems with Karak Stone. Paint a fine highlight with Screaming Skull on the skull. Make a line pattern on the mushroom stems with a wet White Scar.

Paint a line pattern on the mushrooms with Yriel Yellow. Then again with Flash Gitz Yellow and Dorn Yellow but keep working to the top. At some lines to the bottom with Skrag Brown.

Paint 3 colour dots working to the center with following colours: Thunderhawk Blue, Sotek Green and Temple Guard blue.

Mix Pigment Binder with Grange Rust from forgeworld. Mix it until it's as thin as paint. Paint this all over the base and also in the edges of the stones and the tufts. Highlight the tufts with Yriel Yellow and paint the edge of the base with Abaddon Black.
