Hi there,If you are reading this that means that you have supported me and let me start by thanking you for your support! Before we start please check the tutorials about brushes and the wet pallet. If you haven`t done it already you should check those first because they are the basics you need to know to get a better paint job. 

This model was my entry for the painting competitions of the Amsterdambattlebrothers. But I also made a tutorial of this model alone the way. All the elements of Nurgle are present in this model. So for all the Death Guard fans this tutorial is for you. Note that the base tutorial can be found in the gallery link or the titel: imperial city base.

I did not glue the axe on this model. There is to much detail beneath it. Because of the click system it could be painted on the model.


Base Coat the hole model with Death Guard Green. The spray of this colour from GW works really good.

Pain the parts you want metal with Abaddon Black and the parts you want copper with Balthasar Gold. Sorry for the bad picture :O.

Shade the armor model with Athonian Camoshade. Then shade all the deepest edges and the copper on the armor with Agrax Earthshade.

Highlight the armor with a 50/50 of Death Guard Green and Ogryn Camo.

Highlight the armor with Nurgling Green.

Paint the belly with Cadian Fleshtone, the fleshy parts with Khorne Red, pustules with Caliban Green, guts with Phoenician Purple and the maggot with Averland Sunset.

Paint a gradient on the belly with stippling technique. Use Kislev Flesh, 50/50 mix of Kislev Flesh and Pallid Wych Flesh. Finally paint a dot highlight with Pallid Wych Flesh.

Highlight the fleshy parts and the pustules with a 50/50 mix of Cadian Fleshtone and Kislev Flesh. The highlight the flesh with Kislev Flesh and a 50/50 with Kislev Flesh and Pallid Wych Flesh. Finally a highlight if Pallid Wych Flesh.




Highlight the guts with a 80/20, 60/40, 40/60, 20/80 mix of Phoenician Purple and Kislev Flesh. Final highlight with Kislev Flesh.




Shade the fleshy parts and the guts with Druchii Violet.

Paint all the metal parts with Leadbelcher and the bronze parts with Balthasar Gold.

Paint all edges and screws of the bronze parts with Nihilakh Oxide.

Paint all the Paint all the chainmail Mournfang Brown.

Paint a gradient on the chainmail by mixing the Mournfang Brown with Abaddon Black.




Drybrush the chainmail with Ironbreaker.

Shade all the chain with Nuln Oil. All the metal and the bronze with Agrax Earthshade. The drybrush the copper with Hashut Copper, Sycorax Bronze and Ironbreaker.

So to glue the axe on I first needed to paint the leather. This is really easy just drybrush with Corvus Black, Eshin Grey, Dawnstone and Administratum Grey.

Paint all the parts on the arms the samen way as the steps before. Then drybrush all the silver with Leadbelcher and Ironbreaker.




Use the rust pigment on all the metal parts. But not on the chainmail, chains or moving parts of the axe.




Paint all the skulls, horns and bones Baneblade Brown.

Shade all the bony parts Agrax Earthshade.




Highlight all the skulls, horns and bones with Baneblade Brown and Karak Stone.

Fine highlight the skulls, horns and bones with Screaming Skull and Pallid Wych Flesh.

Base coat the smoke with Administratum Grey. This really looks good on the Death Guard Green. So use that colour first or a grey base colour.




Shade 50% of the smoke with Contrast Leviadon Blue.

Shade 75% of the upper smoke with Contrast Gryph-Charger Grey.

Drybrush all the smoke with Dawnstone. Then drybrush the upper 50% with Administratum Grey and drybrush the tips of the smoke with Corax White.

Base coat the cape with Abaddon Black and paint all the edges with Corvus Black.




Highlight 90% of the edges with Eshin Grey.




Highlight 75% of the edges with Dawnstone and a fine highlight on 40% of the edges with Administratum Grey.




Paint a fine and dot highlight on 10% of the edges with Pallid Wych Flesh.




Base coat the red cape with a 50/50 mix of Abaddon Black and Khorne Red. Then shade it with Agrax Earthshade.




Highlight the edges of the cape with Khorne Red.


Highlight 70% the edges of the cape with Wazdakka Red.

Paint fine highlight on 40% of the edges with Evil Sunz Scarlet.

Paint a fine and dot highlight on 10% of the edges with Wild Rider Red.
