Bad Moon Ork

Apply 2-3-4 layers using a diluted yellow color, until you reach a good smooth coverage. It's not important the brand of the color but we want it to be very brilliant and saturated.


Kimera Kolors Cold Yellow  

Mix your yellow base color with a reddish brown (75%-25%) and obtain an orange color. Use it very diluted to apply a first shadow, remember to grab just a tiny bit of color with the tip of the brush. Apply 2-3 "soft" layers .


Kimera Kolors Red Oxide   

Increase the amount of reddish brown in the mix and apply 2-3 soft layers as for the previous step. I used the same brown (pure) also to paint the basecoat on the trousers. For the jacket I started with a dark green water color but I was not completely happy with them, so I slightly changed their colors (check next step).


Vallejo Model Color Dark Sea Blue

Mix a bright silver color with a ground brown (50%-50%) and apply a flat coverage for your metal parts. I used the same ground brown added to our previous reddish brown (50%-50%) to reduce the saturation on the trousers and to highlight them softly. On the jacket i mixed the dark green water with a light blue and used it as a new basecoat. The boots are painted with a very desaturated blue, you can use a medium grey.

Vallejo Model Color Deep Sky Blue

At this point take the previous mix yellow + reddish brown and use it to shade the metallic color as well. For the fabric basecoat I used a kakhi color.


Citadel Zandri Dust

Using the reddish brown pure keep shading both the yellow armor parts and the metallics.




Mix a dark brown + the reddish brown and keep shading both surfaces. I used the kakhi color for basecoating the horns.


Citadel Bloodreaver Flesh

More shadows with the dark brown pure, especially on metallics. At this point I carefully basecoat the skin with a soft bright natural green.


Citadel Elysan Green

I started shading the skin adding a dark water green color to the base color and then adding also a little bit (just a drop) of red and black to the mix for heavier shadows in the darkest areas.


Completed the shadows, mix a light flesh color with the green (the one used for the basecoat) 50%-50% and proceed with highlighting the skin (focus especially on the face).


Vallejo Model Color Light Flesh

Repeat the same step but with more light flesh color into the mix (75%-25%). I covered the mouth with black to have some strong shadows/black-lining on the teeth and then I painted the tongue with a medium red.


Use a bone color to paint the teeth and highlight the red toungue adding a flesh color to it. Use the same light flesh color and mix it to basecoat colors to have your colors for highlights: mix it with the brown of the trousers, and with the grey of the boots to highlight them. I used an old brush (or you can use a sponge/blistersponge) to apply some dirt effect on the fabric tapping the paint using different brown colors. Adding some black to a dark brown I applied also a dark shadow almost everywhere cause it helps to "separate" all the different surfaces and colors.


Citadel Morghast Bone

Proceed increasing the contrast adding some bright highlight also on the yellow parts (light flesh + yellow) and some more shadows all around with a very dark color (almost black, but being very delicate).


Add the usual light flesh color to the jacket blue color and highlight that as well. I strengthened slightly the orange shade on both yellow parts and metallics.


Use a dark brown + a tiy bit of black to paint random little spots on the armor and metallics (I used a normal brush but you can use also a little sponge to do that).


Citadel Abaddon Black

Use a light silver to paint "inside" the areas we painted with the dark brown in the previous step, to simulate the metal under the peeling layer of color. Use it also to highlight all the metal edges and bolts.


Citadel Runefang Steel

I changed idea for the little freehand on the metal jaw and I glued the pole on his back. Paint the skulls with a bone base color and highlight them adding the light flesh and then use the light flesh pure for final lights.


Add some blood effect somewhere: on orks it looks really cool cause red is the complementary color of green and they interact so nicely. I used a red ink mixed with a tiny bit of black ink for the blood. To grab the color use a flat brush and using a finger make it splash on the miniature. (before doing this make some tries on a piece of paper to proper understand the pressure and study the results).

Vallejo Game Color Smokey Ink

To make a patch on the fabrics of your miniatures you can use a common paper scotch. Just cut a little piece and glue it where you need, then paint it! (check final pictures)


The miniature is completed!

I added some strong orange to simulate rust here and there as final touch. As you can see during my paintjob I constantly alternate lights and shadow, I usually dont finish a surface/color before moving to the next one, I'm used to paint almost all colors together.

As approach it could seem very chaotic and it may be very true, but there is no rule for that, do what you feel and follow what make sense for you.
