Hi everyone, welcome to another Wednesdays Winning lists. Every week I show the lists of the top 5 biggest Warhammer 40.000 tournaments that I can find. The lists I select have a result of x-0 or x-1. After the lists, you can read in this article what my thoughts are about the top 5 best factions in 40k and I describe what is currently going on in the meta. My goal is to mainly provide information to make you a better player. There is a lot of information out there and I hope this article is a nice summary.

Frontline Gaming Cherokee Open 2024 Warhammer 40K Champs, USA: 246 players.

Scheunenkloppen Open. Erkenlenz, Germany: 140 players.

Milwaukee Warhammer 40k GT, USA: 80 players.

Broadsword Wargaming 40K ITC Winter Major III, Ireland: 59 players.

Alliance Open 40K Masters, Netherlands: 45 players.

Many tournament this past weekend and what a meta we have! I think all factions have gone x-1, even Adptus Mechanicus. This is actually the best time ever to play 40k. Time for this week's top 5.

1. Necrons

Last week there was some discussion on Reddit about whether Necrons are the number 1 factions or not. This weekend's results clearly show that they are still the best faction. The factions really aren't as OP as Chaos Space Marines was, for example. But for sure the best faction. The best way to win against Necrons is to provide your list with real hard punching units. This is why Custodes do so well against Necron. They are the perfect counter against the Wraiths. Tanky melee that actually do good damage is strong vs the Wraiths.

2. Adeptus Custodes

Performed slightly less then last weekend, but still had many top placements. I think Custodes have a tough time against the 100% shooting armies. The again, those armies are having a tough time against Necrons. We have a nice rock, paper, scissors going on. The perfect sign of a healthy meta.

3. Space Marines

The Marines move up one spot. Due to their large variety of units, they can adapt well to the Meta. We mainly see a lot of Firestorm lists. The enormous firepower that comes from this lists is strong enough to wipe out Custodes and Necrons. I think Marines need a more open table to be good.

4. Death Guard

This is the faction that I have seen performing well for a while, but this weekend we really see a lot of x-0! They kicked out  Aeldari from the top 5. Death Gaurd is the only army that still has affordable “no line of sight” shooting. Not that anyone uses them :D.  Most list make good use of allied units and ad Brigands. Death Guard also have super good melee and shooting options. With the allied units the have all the tools needed to win against most armies.

5. Gray Knights

In my top 5 for the first time! I think with the rules updates for Dreadknights they are really good now. We also see this in this weekend's results.
